Lake Murrray

I found this cool web page about Lake Murray. It has old film clips about when the lake was constructed. It is neat to see the towers before they had water around them.

For those of you who did not know (and care), Lake Murray was named after William Murray who was the engineer that helped build "the world's largest earthen dam." It was built to produce hydroelectric power. Work on the dam was started in 1927 and finished in 1930. The lake is 41 miles long and, in places, over 14 miles wide. The lake has over 500 miles of shoreline and is over 50,000 acres.

Well enough for the history lesson. Other than using the electricity that it produces, I like to "play" on Lake Murray best. I took the picture above at our neighborhood dock. Class dismissed. :)
