Hunting for bears and gold

There were 25 bears around Cherokee commissioned to individualize them.
I had a got of fun finding the bears.  Here are a few that we found.
Fish Bear
The Legends Bear
The Bear Chief
Patriot Bear

We went mining for gold.  Hunter loved looking for treasures in the dirt.
I know this is surprising but we didn't strike it rich.

Hunting for jewels

Look at this kudzu.  It was amazing tall probably around 20 feet tall.
It made a cool shaded path.

Cherokee, NC

We went up to Cherokee to get a break for the summer heat.  We had a great time learning Indian history.
We toured the Oconaluftee Indian Village.  They had several Indian structures reflecting different periods of time.

Cherokee indians are divided into 7 clans.  They are the deer, blue, bird, long hair, wolf, wild potato and paint.  You couldn't marry any one from your clan.  When you married, you joined the women's clan.

We learned several Cherokee dances

We ate at this indian restaurant.
I got some delicious indian tacos.
See how the tree is growing through the buildind.
Here was even a stream the flowed under the porch.

We saw the outdoor drama "Unto these hills"

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Hunter helped out back stage with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at Town Theatre. The play ran 3 weeks. He helped make the set before the play started, helped with the dress rehearsals, and the performances. We spent a lot of time at Town Theatre this summer. Hunter loved every minute.

Webelos Waters

Jordan and I went to Webelos Waters where we camping for 3 days in the heat.  The camp was great about suppling lots of water to keep us hydrated.  Only one other boy from Jordan's den, Luke,  attended.

Jordan and Luke

They had a lot of activities every day.  We were very busy.   Jordan earned some activity badges and redo some that he already earned.

Jordan in his geologist class

It was extremely hot in the 100s every day.  Even at night it with the fan it has hot.  We would lay in the tent and sweat.  The tent we slept in looked like an old army tent.  There were cots in the tents to sleep on.  One night as we were trying to sleep in the tent, Jordan said he wondered how many people had died in the cot he was sleeping in.  Leave it up to Jordan.

Jordan found this cool stick.  I think he looks like an Ewoke in this picture.  (minus the fur of course)

Jordan whetting at the campsite

I was so proud of Jordan passing his swimming test.
So he was allowed to swim in the "deep end " of the lake.
We loved swimming since it gave us a break from the heat.

Hunter leaves for camp

Troop 870

Here is Hunter's boy scout troop just before they left for Camp Bud Schiele in Rutherfordton, SC. They wanted to go somewhere cooler this year than Camp Barstow in the Midlands. Hunter had a great time even though their campsite was on the top of "Heart attack Hill."

The Big Mo

We went to the drive-in to watch a double feature of Transformers 3 and Super 8. Oreo went along for his first outdoor movie.

They had a 4th of July. So we joined it. Oreo was so good with all the people and other dogs around.

Here we are just before the movie started. You can even see Jordan in the back.
