Rodeo

We went to the Rodeo last night. Hunter's boy scout troop had a pack meeting there. It was the first time we had been to a rodeo. This rodeo company travels across the country and is based out of SC.

We saw bareback bronc riding, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, steer wrestling and team roping. My favorite event was the cowgirl barrel riding.

But the bull riding was a site to see. None of the riders last night stayed on their bulls the 8 seconds needed to qualify. Bulls - 1 Cowboys - 0 But they were a lot braver than me. I bet their medical insurance premiums are high. Below is a video clip of one of the bull riders last night. Click on the arrow to see the clip.

The Dam Walk

There is a cool walking path over the Lake Murray Dam. We had not walked over it before. It was neat walking and looking at the water. We were glad that Mom and Dad were able to join us also.

There is a letterbox hidden at the dam. "The Dam Letterbox" has an awesome stamp and is very well hidden. Thanks to the Palmetto Princess for planting a letterbox there.

Looking for The Gypsy

Jordan getting ready to search for a letterbox

Jordan and I had the best time letterboxing yesterday. Chris and Hunter did not want to go so we went without them.

Another letterboxer, Talley Valley Farm Clan, had emailed me about a box planted in Columbia. This box travels around from place to place. It is an invitation only box. Once you find it, you must replant it within 2 weeks and email the new clues to the owner. The gypsy started her travels in 2004. So for 4 years, she has been traveling around.

Jordan and I started looking for The Gypsy before the Talley Valley Farm Clan arrived. Just when we were going to take a break from looking, then The Talley Valley Farm Clan and her sister and nephew arrived. We all looked some more. Finally The Gypsy was found! They had been searching for The Gypsy for months at Table Rock State Park which was her last known location. The Gypsy had 2 beautifully carved stamps and a logbook full of finders.

After that, we looked for some more boxes together hidden in the same park. Jordan had a great time playing with their son. Holly and I enjoyed looking in each others logbooks. We have meet some of the nicest people letterboxing. I guess if you are willing to walk through the woods in search of rudder stamps you can't be too mean maybe crazy but not mean. :)

Next Jordan and I looked for a new series of letterboxes called "Are You Superstitious?" Most of the letterboxes were planted in cemeteries. As we were looking in one cemetery, Jordan said Mom remember what they said on the ghost walk. (We went to one of those Ghost Walks in Charleston) If you trip when you are walking on someone's grave, it means they are graping your legs. (The things Jordan remembers!)

For one letterbox, we had to go into a shop and tell the owner that it looks like rain, do you have an umbrella I may borrow? Yesterday it rained on and off all day. So the question was not out of the ordinary. We stamped the letterbox and had some of their delicious ice coffee.

More sailing pictures

Jordan made sailing camp look like so much fun Hunter decided he wanted to come. So the last 2 days of camp, Hunter joined the class.

They had the best time. On Friday, they sailed to an island and had a picnic lunch. Both of the boys are looking forward to next years sailing camp.

Sailing

Jordan is taking sailing class this week. He loves it! He is rigging and derigging his own sailboat, learning lots of sailing term and having a ball. The class lasts a week for 4 hours each day. This picture was from his first day of class. On the second day, they sailed larger boats to the dam which is about 4 miles from the sailing club. I couldn't believe it.

Jordan's Big Dig

I got Jordan a cool dinosaur kit. It came with a white block, pick hammer, a small paint brush and a pair of safety goggles. Inside the white block was a set of dinosaur bones. So Jordan picked away at the white block and slowly he started to see some dinosaur bones. If you click on the picture, you can see the white powder on his face from hitting the block.

You can see the bones starting to appear. He was able to uncover a set of T-Rex bones. Once he puts them together, I will post a picture of the completed dinosaur. Jordan said that now he is a paleontologist. (Yes, he used that word. See the schools around here are good. )
