Night at the USS Yorktown

We spent the night aboard the USS Yorktown in Charleston. The ship did not come alive at night but with the air conditioner so loud you would think it could awake the dead. Hunter and Jordan's boy scout pack met at the aircraft carrier at 9:30 Saturday morning.

Hunter and Jordan ready for their adventure to begin

The pack met at the picnic beaches in front of the Yorktown. Then we were invited to board the ship.

Once we arrived on the ship. They showed us our rooms. They separated the women and men. Luckily for me, the women got the officers quarters and the men were in enlisted quarters.

This is a picture where the men stayed.
The green sleeping bags are Hunter and Jordan's beds
and Chris slept on the bottom under them.

There was not enough room to sit on their beds. Chris said there was only about 5 inches from his face to the bottom of the other bunk.

This is where I stayed. There were 4 of us in a room.
It pays to be an officer!

Hunter is the 4th scout on the second row and Jordan is on the front row with a yellow hat. He was the only boy from his den (the wolves) to go.

We had the best time exploring the Yorktown, submarine and Coast Guard ship.

We went on a boat ride to Fort Sumter where the first shot of the Civil War hit. The fort was very interesting.

Then we boated back to the Yorktown and explored some more.

We ate supper and breakfast in the mess hall served military style. The food was not as bad as you would think. They showed movies in the theater on the ship at night. They said we could go on the self guided tours until 11pm. We had a lot of fun exploring the ship at night.

They played revalie in the morning to wake us up. After breakfast, we went on the flight deck. It was very nice first thing in the morning. We were one of the first ones up there.
