On Saturday we went to Greenwood State Park for a Letterbox Gathering. The picture is not that great but that is Hunter and I at the table. Hunter's shirt is blue and I'm wearing green. There were about 50 people at the gathering. It was nice meeting other people who letterbox. We exchanged signature stamps. A signature stamp is the stamp you use to "sign" a log book when you find a letterbox. Most signature stamps are unique. They nornally are carved by the letterboxer. There were lots of kids for Hunter and Jordan to play with. There was even a series of letterboxes for Kids only. These were the first boxes the boys ever found without us. They loved it.
Hunter and Jordan also enjoyed exchanging "cooties." A cootie is a stamp that you put it someones bag or pocket when they are not looking. It is like a surprise stamp. They are hidden in everyday objects. They were in film containers, gum boxes, pill bottles, CD holders, etc. There was one in a book. When you opened it, there was a section in the center where the pages were cut out and the stamp was inside there.
We enjoyed meeting people we knew through the letterboxing website, atlasquest.com. The lady siting next to me in the green is Karen. She had planted lots of letterboxes in Columbia. The picture of Hunter and Jordan taken at their first letterbox (posted in December) was taken at a series of letterboxes she planted. Everyone we met was nice. It was fun putting faces with names.
There are lots of letterboxes planted in Greenwood State Park. We had been there once before to letterbox. Several new boxes had been planted since then. We found most of the ones that we had not found before. On the way home, Hunter was asking if we could please find more boxes before going home. It was nice seeing Hunter and Jordan enjoying letterboxing as much as I do.
