Peachtree Rock Heritage Preserve and the Zoo

For my birthday weekend, I want to do stuff around Columbia with Chris and the boys. First we went to Peachtree Rock Heritage Preserve. It is named for the large sandstone formation which looks like an upside-down pyramid. It is the result of erosion of the lower layers of rock and sand. The upper layers are hard, coarse-grained sandstone that erodes slower.

There is a small waterfall near Peachtree rock that is the only cascade in SC sandhills.

Next we went to the zoo. This is one of my favorite places in the zoo... the fake tree in the birdhouse. The zoo was not crowded so I was able to sit in it with the boys. Normally there is a long line of kids so I don't get in.

This giant chair is in the botanical garden section of the zoo. Hunter looks so little in it.
