Spring Break - Beaufort

We spent the second half of Spring Break in Beaufort. The boy's favorite part of Beaufort was the outdoor swimming pool at the hotel. We could have saved a lot of money and swam in the neighbors pool. But we all enjoyed getting away.

We took a horse and buggy tour of Beaufort which was a lot of fun and we learned a lot.

The Castle was built over 150 years old. There are gorgeous giant Oak trees in front of the house.

This is the hanging tree. Numerous pirates and outlaws were hung from the tree.

As you probably know most of Forest Gump was filmed in Beaufort. Even the Vietnam scenes when filmed near Fripp Island. Here we are in front of Bubba's church. Tom Hanks stepped in that very spot during filming. The bench scenes were filmed in Savannah. I guess they could not find a bench they liked in Beaufort.

This is the bridge the Forrest Gump ran across when he crossed the Mississippi River. After filming, the movie studio left the "Welcome to Mississippi" sign on the bridge. The local government was not very happy and had in removed.

Another picture on the bridge.
We also went to The Chocolate Tree, the chocolate shop were Forrest got his famous box of chocolate.
YUM!!!

This was a neat overlook we found in Port Royal. There were about 6 flights of stairs to walk up to get to the top.
We ate at our favorite seafood restaurant, 11th Dockside, in Port Royal. We had not eaten there since Hunter was a toddler. So we enjoyed eating and talking without having to entertain a toddler.

We enjoyed looking at all the ships outside to restaurant. What a beautiful view.

Our boys

We went to Hunting Island State Park. There we are at the top of the lighthouse. You could see for miles.

There was a neat Nature Center and boardwalk at Hunting Island State Park. There are my men on the boardwalk with the Fripp Island bridge behind them. (which by the way was the bridge Nick Nolte drove over in The Prince of Tides)
