Owl Prowl

To celebrate Mom's birthday, we went to Congaree National Park for an Owl Prowl. We all had flashlights covered with a red plastic covering. This helped prevent night blindness for the animals and us. We went on a 2 1/2 mile guided tour along the elevated boardwalk. There were about 35 people on the tour. We saw bald cypress trees, loblolly pines (some were 150 feet tall), a huge spider, a bat and heard the wild pigs. By putting the back of our flashlight against our forehead and shining the light straight down on the ground, we saw tiny, bright-green dots. They were spider eyes. About halfway on the path, we stopped and listened to the night sounds. You could heard splashes in the water, movement in the trees and lots of owls. Even though we did not see any owls, we sure heard a lot of them.

Happy Birthday!
