Here is Dale Earnhardt, Jr. , AKA Hunter's favorite driver, pulling in after running his qualifying laps. You can see in the background close the trailers parked to each other and in front of each trailer were stacks and stacks of tires. It was amazing. We also saw the practice laps for Saturday's race (which turned into Sunday's race because of rain.) So Hunter got to see Dale race again along with Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, and all the other big name drivers.

Showdown at Sundown
Friday night, we went to the Diamond Hill Plywood 200 on the track that is "Too Tough to Tame." We saw the qualifying laps for the cup race.

We saw Speed Vision broadcasting their show "Trading Paint." So he got to see Jeff Gordon and Kyle Petty up close. They also did the camera sweeps of the crowd so we were on TV for about a half of a second three time. Hunter was not impressed with seeing Jeff Gordan or Kyle Petty. He said he only wanted to see Dale Jr. Sounds like a true race fan to me.
Here is a shot from the stands. There was a sea of people coming from the parking lot through the trailers to the track. It was taken about an hour and half before the race started and this was the Busch race. I can only imagine the crowd at the cup race.
They brought a stage out and introduced each driver in the race. The car are lined up in their pole positions behind the stage. Then the "Gentlemen start your engines" was announced. I was surprised that there was about 15 minutes between the starting of the engines and the race starting.
We had a great time watching the drivers racing on the "lady in black." Here the cars are coming around turn #4. We lucked out with great seats. We were in the second tower near the top at the start/ finish line so we could see all the pit stops.
