After visiting Fort Matanzas, we continued North through the Jacksonville Beaches. We had never been to the beaches in Jacksonville. We were pleasantly surprised. They were nicer than we were expecting. We were thinking they would be more like Daytona Beach. We let the boys play on the beach for a couple of hours and headed to Brunswick, GA. We spent the next day on Jekyll Island. I had been wanting to go to Jekyll Island for a couple of years. Now I want to go back. It was wonderful. Jekyll Island is a state park with a paved bike path around the island. The boys loved riding their razors on it. There were lots of sailboats. People were kite surfing (I think that is what you call it) which was cool to watch. They had a kite attached to them while they surfed. The kite would help them travel to the next wave and sometimes would lift them completely out of the water.
Hunter and Jordan loved playing on the beach. Jordan wrote all his ABCs on the beach. In the picture above, he is making sure he did not leave any letters out. We found a hermit crab on the beach and watched him scurry around. Jekyll Island is a nesting area for Sea Turtles. So that was neat also.
Chris, Hunter and Jordan are standing in front of the Jekyll Island Club Hotel. It is in the historical section of Jekyll Island. It was built a century ago, when it was founded as an exclusive retreat for members of America's highest society like the Rockefellers and Vanderbilts. There were also private "cottages" that these ultra rich people built.
There is Hunter and Chris in front of a "cottage." I guess this is a cottage if you live at the Biltmore.
This is Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island. It was amazing. Look at all the oak trees.
Another picture of Driftwood Beach. When we got to Driftwood Beach, there was a wedding that was just ending. What a beautiful place to get married on the beach with all the oak trees. We saw three weddings that day, one in the historical area, this one on the beach and one on St Simmons Island at the lighthouse. I guess love was in the air or everyone is going crazy.
